A Year’s Growth is a collection of paintings inspired by the natural tangle of vegetation found in and around the Australian sub-alpine bush. Working in acrylic on stretched canvas, I paint spontaneously, slowly building up layers of colour and pattern. I rarely begin a painting with a specific plan in mind, instead allowing the composition to develop intuitively.

I am endlessly inspired by the different textures and patterns found in nature. At first glance, when looking into the scrub of local bush land, layers and layers of foliage overlap to create what appear to be impenetrable barrier of plant life. However upon closer inspection you can begin see finer details and identify individual plants. I try to convey a similar feeling in my work, exploring shapes and colours that from afar appear solid and then upon closer inspection reveal amass of finer details, patterns and subtleties.

A Year’s Growth is also a symbolic phrase that refers to my own journey as an artist. Although I have been working on my art practices and techniques for most of my life, it was only after my first exhibition a little over a year ago that I decided to focus on my art full time.

In the relatively short time since making that leap, I have gained representation in several galleries and retail stores across Australia as well as being signed up with a licensing agent in the United Kingdom which has introduced my work onto an international stage. I am constantly amazed at how quickly things can change, and how much personal growth can be achieved, when you dedicate yourself 100% to doing what you love.
